At Gallaudet, weare doing everything we can to maintain academic continuity, and to provide our students, staff, and faculty with the services they need. Here is a sampling; more information will be added as it is received.
Ombuds Virtual Open House
The Office of the Ombuds is hosting a weekly virtual Open House on Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Eastern Time for the rest of the academic year. This is a chance for you to “swing by” virtually and say hi, ask questions, and learn more about the Ombuds Office and its services to help you navigate through a conflict, issue or concern. Via remote video meetings, we can do conflict resolution, mediations, restorative circles, and dialogues, and facilitations. The Ombuds Office is also a place for you to receive coaching, conflict analysis, and options for conflict resolution and management.
Elizabeth Stone, University Ombuds, is here to partner with you and get through these uncertain times. She is also here to listen to you, for you to process, and to leave with a plan of action for any issues you are facing. All members of the Gallaudet community are welcome: undergraduate students, graduate students, employees, including faculty and staff both at Gallaudet and Clerc Center, families of University students, alumni, and University community members.

Title IX Applies to Remote Interaction
With classes and other academic programs being provided remotely, the Office of Title IX wants to take this opportunity to remind members of our community that maintaining an academic program free from sex/gender discrimination remains a high priority for the university. Members of the community should be aware of these three important points:
- The Title IX office remains open, and is conducting its work remotely. Anyone impacted by sex/gender discrimination is encouraged to contact the Title IX office to make a report; email Jennie Sivak, Title IX Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org, and/or Amy Rousseau, Director, Office of Student Conduct, at email@example.com. Investigations and panel board hearings will be conducted remotely, and remedies provided, including interim measures, to ensure that any sexual harassment, sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, retaliation, or other sexually discriminatory behaviors are addressed promptly.
- University policies (https://www.gallaudet.edu/title-ix) on sexual misconduct apply not just to behaviors that occur in person between members of the university community, but also to online and virtual misconduct. Any behavior that is prohibited by the policy is also likely prohibited in cyber-forms, including cyber-harassment, cyber-bullying that is sex-based, and cyber-stalking. Members of the community are expected to maintain a tone of civility and respect in online classes just as they would if they were in class physically.
- Faculty and staff members who are mandated reporters are reminded that reporting of alleged sexual misconduct is expected when they become aware of incidents or allegations involving members of the campus community, regardless of how they learn of the potential misconduct, whether in person, in writing, or online.

Counseling and Psychological Services Available to Students for Emergency Support
Counseling and Psychological Services staff are available to students for emergency support. In this video, CAPS says, “Today, crises are happening everywhere. We are here for you. What does “Emergency support” mean? You can reach out to CAPS when you are feeling conflicted, confused, overwhelmed and also, if you are not feeling safe or a danger to yourself. If you need us, go ahead and contact us at email@example.com, or call us via videophone at 202-250-2300 or voice at 202-651-6080. If CAPS is closed, email DPS at firstname.lastname@example.org, or you can call or text 202-651-5555.
Another option would be the Crisis Text Line. You can contact them during any crisis. The volunteers have training on working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Just text 741741 and enter DHOH.

COVID-19 Hotline Available 24/7
What should you do if you are sick, or think someone may be ill? We have a new 24/7 hotline, available for both videophone and text/voice callers. Use this hotline to report potential cases of coronavirus infection.
If you think a coworker might be ill, try to talk with your coworker. Offer your support. Encourage them to contact the Department of Public Safety immediately. If they are not able or willing to self-report, contact DPS yourself. Our community health depends on it!
DPS officers are trained first responders, and will address your or your coworker’s situation with compassion and discretion. All situations will be kept confidential.
