GIS Moves to Remote Operations and Service provisions

Due to the impact of COVID-19 in our area, and in alignment with the University’s guiding principles in response to this pandemic, Gallaudet Interpreting Services (GIS) has moved to remote operations and service provision. During this time we are temporarily offering the following services, with a focus on Gallaudet University requests. We are not currently accepting requests from entities not affiliated with Gallaudet University.

  • Synchronous live interpreting through video conferencing platforms:
    • ASL to close vision¬†
    • English to ASL
    • ASL to English
    • ASL to English with captions
  • Asynchronous interpreting:
    • Written English transcription of an ASL video source
    • Spoken English interpretation of an ASL video source
    • ASL interpretation of a spoken English video source
    • ASL translation of English text source (in limited situations)
  • Other services:
    • Intralingual support for emerging signers
    • Captions for spoken English video source
    • In-person interpreting (on a limited basis and by approval only)
    • Emergency/DPS interpreting
